DISCOVER ITALY with Ale / featuring ASCOLI PICENO
There is more than one town in Italy where you can get lost walking in tight and narrowed streets.
Venezia is probably the most famous one.
But nothing beats the feeling of a jump back into History you get when you find yourself inside the thick reticulate of Ascoli Piceno old town centre.
Alleys, Arches, Bridges, old Gates and Churches, Theatres and Cloisters, Baptisteries and Cathedrals.
You can fill your eyes with Romanesque Art and Architecture, you can watch the old walls made from Travertine shine reflecting at the sun, you can imagine the early Middle Ages entering one of the many astonishing squares and looking up towards the sky, the bell towers, the spires and the towers.
But most of all, what you need to do is to get yourself away from the touristic routines, and hide inside the streets called RUE.
A RUA is like a “ruga”, a wrinkle on the face of a town, the thick and narrowed streets, usually the less important ones, that run all along and behind the main sites in the old town historical centre.
You choose one, walk in one direction, around a church or a square, try to avoid any possible dead end, and follow it through turns and alleys and cafes and small restaurants.
Smell the fresh bread and the pizza from the bakeries, stop to have an Espresso at the Bar (Cafe) and drink some fresh water coming from the nearby mountains (Monti Sibillini National Park) at a drinkin fountain;
Turn right, then left, and you’re back to the place where you were before.
And all this is Magic. Trust me.
(i suggest you do it with a mobile camera in your hands, and you’ll make it even more magical)
ENJOY JUXTERS!
