Episode 2 / “She’s a Natural” featuring Justine and Allison Moore (@wunderali on Instagram and EyeEm)
“My nearly-two year old daughter, Justine, has been going through a ‘dressing up’ phase since before she could walk. And lately, she’s been especially interested in wearing my sunglasses, which she promptly loses around the house. So I bought her a cheap pair of child’s sunnies. She couldn’t have been happier, and wouldn’t talk them off for the rest of our shopping trip….running around the store, and posing with the mannequins. I was amazed at the instant attitude (even though she was running into walls a bit.)
Where do little kids get this stuff? Its adorable, but it also makes me want to protect her from growing up too fast. I want to protect her from society’s pressures on feminine beauty and worth. I want her to always feel beautiful because she IS and not because she’s TRIED to be. It will be a journey for us both.
I took these photos with the native iPhone camera, and put it through Camera+, using the flash and black and white filters.
That’s it.
I loved it in bright colour too, but seeing it in b&w instantly reminded me of one of my favourite Cindy Sherman pictures, Untitled Film Still #7 (see picture on the left) “

Good call on the Cindy Sherman reference. I have always liked her photographs. I hope your daughter doesn’t ever lose the “dress up” phase. Anyone else tired of seeing stretch pants and torn t-shirts out there in the regular world, or is it just me?

Wonderful photos! I’m a Mama to three girls and can appreciate the challenge of raising them to know their worth as people. To feel the beauty that comes from within. Not an easy task in this society, but not impossible. I often hear them repeating a favorite quote of mine “Beauty fades, but funny is forever”.
Beauty fades, but funny is forever”
i will use this someday, you will see…
