Juxt x OKA’s Be Mobile Event for Food Lifeline

The beauty of connected (mobile) photography is the foundation of community. Before camera phones and terms like “mobile photography” and “iphoneography”, there was not a “sharing” component for photography outside of the traditional means. The fast paced world we live in now enables us to communicate almost instantaneously. We, as a community, are able to share our world, our art, and our vision with just about anyone in the world. This is the beauty of this art and this community.

Juxt had a unique opportunity to utilize this connected community to benefit a local charity, Food Lifeline. In partnership with Olson Kundig Architects, Juxt produced an exhibition of beautiful photography and art all produced on a mobile device (iPhone and Android). These photographs were donated by Juxt(er)s, contributors to the We Are Juxt site, from around the world. From Australia to Denmark, Italy to Singapore, Bay Area to New York City, these Juxt(er)s provided a glimpse into their world as they see it.
They are the storytellers, the artists, and the tour guides. It was because of them that this event was made possible.
We also wanted to appreciate our other sponsors; PostalPix, AG Therapy, MacPhun, Soza and Friends, and Christian O’Connor, Johnson, Kindness Law Firm.

We exceeded our goal on July 19th. We were able to show that mobile photography and mobile artistry is validated by appreciation not only verbal but monetarily. For a lot of our artists, it was the first time to have their work sold. It’s a beautiful thing, validation. They deserve it. MOST importantly we were ablet o raise money for Food Lifeline and their campaign to eradicate childhood hunger in Western Washington.
Big thanks to everyone who supported this event and we look forward to next year! Please enjoy these photographs from the event. Joe Iano and Adam Kryzer were the awesome duo who documented this evening.

Rachel from Food Lifeline: Food Lifeline was honored to benefit from the We are Juxt Be Mobile/ Mobile Photography Exhibit on Thursday, July 19th. The photography was unique, creative and well-done. Summer is the hardest time for many families, when school meal programs are out, more families turn to the food banks. This is where Food Lifeline steps in put on the table for families across Western Washington and we are so thankful for the artists that donated their talent and guests who purchased the photos to help feed children in the summer. Through this event, nearly 4,000 meals were provided for Food Lifeline and hungry children this summer. Many thanks to those who gave their art, time, talent and dollars to Food Lifeline!

I was truly humbled when BP told me how many meals the sale of my photo could provide. I was moved to tears.
Amazing.
Joanna, it was such an amazing feeling! Wish you all could have been there to see and feel it. Everyone was in great spirits and best of all we all made a difference.
