No Poster Child
You’ve probably noticed that I like doing selfies. Here’s a quick, step-by-step process of how a self-portrait on a lazy Sunday morning turned into a silent-rebellion piece.
Original image shot with an iPhone 4s |
HDR FX to enhance the colors and sharpen the image |
Snapseed to add more clarity and grunge |
Iris to polarize and add grunge |
Picture Effects to make the portraiture stronger |
Random Decim8 combos to give it the “artistic touch” |
Random Decim8 combos to get a textured, blocked background |
Filterstorm for selective blending of the last 3 images |
Scratchcam to get a vintage poster effect |
Image Blender to blend last 2 images |
Modern Grunge to give it a 3D scrapbook effect |
Image Blender to mix the last 2 images |
Filterstorm to enhance portrait; Final Image: No Poster Child
With this selfie, I knew I wanted a strong image while still retaining some subtelty. I think I achieved that effect. Do you?

Thanks, Joanna!
With a name like Scratchcam, it’s cool how that step softened your composition. I also think the blend helped to retain subtlety. Thanks for sharing your process!
Thanks so much for your feedback, Nicholas! Truly appreciate it. Sometimes it surprises me what some apps can do … just have to keep experimenting, I suppose
